Some art is created with heavily focused intention, and some is created within the flow and freedom of the moment. Alison Grayson's intricate skull carvings and paintings balance both aspects perfectly. These works channel the story and energy behind the bones into captivating patterns, mandalas, and nature scenes, breathing life back into the skulls that honors the beings they once belonged to. Using materials such as gold leaf, oxblood, and polished stones, Grayson adds vibrant color and eye catching shine to each piece, choosing aspects that again reflect upon the intention of the piece. Her subjects are often found in the woods, and are always ethically sourced.

Alison Grayson's newest series combines her astounding skull carving skill with massive portraits, each radiating the energy of her carvings in a much larger scale. Playfully combining human forms with sacred geometry and skulls that are masterpieces on their own, Alison blurs the dynamic between humanity and nature, while exploring intimate aspects of the soul.

As a clairsentient, Alison believes her responsibility is to listen and honor, not to dictate. Each design is unplanned and unique to the creation's voice, with the elements being carved or painted as they reveal themselves.

She strongly believes that all life is of the same cosmic energy, and that the trauma encapsulated in the animal's bodies can block their energy from fully transforming outwards after death. She also believes that this trauma can be compounded, being carried along from one iteration of consciousness into to subsequent rebirths. By nurturing the animal in its death and releasing this trapped energy, Alison is working to heal a cycle of trauma

Alison Grayson (she/they) is a death dwelling conduit of creation and transformation. Their work pulls energy from multiple realms, with many pieces combining the painting of an entity with the power of carved skulls. When not traveling with her art, Alison spends her time in Portland, OR with her canine companion Ballast. In addition to skull carving, she is a teacher and facilitator for befriending death, a location sound recordist, a tiny house/skoolie advocate, documentary film maker, a fighter, a dancer, and a lover of life and all the transformation that comes before and after.
