Artist Feature: Megumi Toyosawa

"It can take a lifetime to shed the wounds of our teenage selves."

SLIDER-3.jpg

The paintings of emerging artist Megumi Toyosawa aim to depict issues of self-esteem and her social struggles as a teen. It can take a lifetime to shed the wounds of our teenage selves, which often result in problems with self-worth. Utilizing oil paint as her medium, Toyosawa executes these personal challenges beautifully. I asked Megumi to expand on her work in relation to her teenage struggles.

With self-esteem and self-love as a theme, I paint conflicts of my mind, such as pain through life and my fear of death. The girls in the paintings depict themselves as figures embodying the multifaceted emotions that I possessed during my teenage years.”
